The mass media have an important role in modern society as the main channel of communication. The stronger and more purposeful the communication channels, the more developed the countries and vice versa. The population relies on the news media as the main source of information and the basis on which they form their opinions and voting decisions. Any selection of messages in the mass media will thus have a profound effect on the entire society. The present volume is devoted to the discussion of the role of the media in presenting contemporary social issues. Specific instance of media coverage of issues related to human rights, women, environment, consumerism etc., are duly discussed. The potential of media to improve our social situation is contrasted with the actual trends in addressing these issues. It also attempts to identify the areas in which media can bring about radical changes for the better future.
